Solomons Rufous Fantail
Rhipidura rufofronta
Small, active songbird with long, pale-tipped tail and warm brownish-orange on the forehead, rump, and tail base. Varies throughout range in the Solomons; all are brown above and pale below, with a black-speckled breast. Birds on Uki Island stand out in having a black throat, while birds on Santa Ana and San Cristobal (Makira) average paler, brighter brown on the back. Inhabits wooded habitats from the coast up into the mountains. High-pitched, tinkling song often has a descending quality. Formerly grouped with other closely related species under “Rufous Fantail.”
分类信息
The Solomons rufous fantail was formally described in 1879 by the Australian ornithologist Edward Pierson Ramsay based on a specimen that had been collected by James F. Cockerell on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. Ramsay coined the binomial name Rhissidura rufofronta (with the genus name Rhipidura misspelled). The specific epithet combines Latin rufus meaning "red" with frons, frontis meaning "forehead" or "brow". The Solomons rufous fantail was formerly considered to be a subspecies of the rufous fantail (renamed the Australian rufous fantail) (Rhipidura rufifrons) but is now treated as a separate species mainly based on the genetic differences.<p>Seven subspecies are recognised:

Black-throated Green Warbler
Setophaga virens
Bright yellow face with olive cheeks, crown, and back. Only breeding males have solid black throat. In all plumages, look for dark streaks on white flanks and yellow wash on vent. Breeds in mixed coniferous forests; migrants can be found in any wooded habitat, usually with tall trees. Winters primarily in Central America and the Caribbean, rarely into northern South America. Compare especially with Townsend’s Warbler on the wintering grounds, but Black-throated Green has a less contrasting face pattern (especially paler crown and cheeks) and less yellow on breast.

Collared Warbling Finch
Poospiza hispaniolensis
Handsome finch-like bird found in dry habitats of western Peru and western Ecuador. Male has a black breast and face mask that stand out against his white throat, eyebrow, and belly. Similar to Black-capped Sparrow, but breast band is much thicker, eyebrow extends almost to bill, and tail shows some white. Young males may have patches of brown in their plumage. Female is quite different; she is mostly brown with a lot of streaking. Her thick, pale eyebrow and orange bill are good identification features.

Lichtenstein's Sandgrouse
Pterocles lichtensteinii
Small, shy sandgrouse of harsh deserts. Beautifully patterned all over with fine black stripes. Male has black-and-white forehead pattern and broad sandy and black horizontal bars across his breast. Both sexes have a pale yellowish eyering. Rather compact with a short rear. Inhabits stony, mountainous deserts. Unlike most other sandgrouse, drinks at dusk. In flight utters odd, urgent squeaks.
