Eastern Orphean Warbler
Curruca crassirostris
Plain but subtly attractive medium-sized warbler. Adult is gray with a black head and a white throat. Female has a less contrasting head pattern than the male. Younger birds are browner with a faded-looking version of the adult’s head pattern. Visually very similar to the Western Orphean Warbler, but the black on the head is more cleanly cut off from the gray of the back on Eastern Orphean Warbler. Also note the comparatively cleaner-looking belly on Eastern Orphean. Breeding ranges do not overlap. Breeds in open forests from which it delivers its song in phrases with an almost thrushlike warbling melody. Non-breeding habitats include open scrubby habitats, such as thornscrub and semidesert.

Red-throated Sunbird
Anthreptes rhodolaemus
Medium-sized sunbird with a fairly straight dark bill. Brightly-colored has an iridescent green back, yellowish belly, and reddish wings, face, and throat. Female is dull brownish yellow overall, with an olive-tinged back and wings. Brown-throated Sunbird is very similar in all plumages; male of that species has more prevalent bluish iridescence and minimal reddish coloration, while female Brown-throated has a slightly narrower eyering (best identified when accompanied by a male though). Where the two overlap, Red-throated tends to be much less common, especially in artificial habitats such as parks and gardens, though it does occur in secondary growth and forest edge, as well as primary growth. Song is a brief series of high thin “tsi-tzee” notes, and calls include various high chips and trills.

Black-faced Cuckooshrike
Coracina novaehollandiae
Large slender bird, pale gray above, paler below, with distinctive black mask and throat. Immature paler, with dark gray mask rather than black face. Dark-morph White-bellied Cuckooshrike has more extensive black in face as adult, lacks mask in light morph and as immature. Often shuffles wings after landing. Inhabits many wooded habitats with clearnings, farmland, and urban areas with trees from Indonesia to Australia. Call is a worried-sounding, rattling trill.

Nazca Booby
Sula granti
Large seabird, very similar to Masked Booby. Long and pointy on all ends: wings, tail, and bill. Adults mostly gleaming white with black flight feathers and face; note pinkish-orange (not yellow) bill to help separate from adult Masked. Young birds darker overall with brown head contrasting with white belly and dirty brown markings on underwings; very similar to young Masked or even adult Brown Booby. Found in the Pacific Ocean from Mexico to Peru where it feeds on fish; breeds on rocky islands, especially the Galapagos.
