Philippine Leaf Warbler
Phylloscopus olivaceus
A small bird of forests from the lowlands to low elevations in the mountains. Olive-green on the back with golden-olive wings and tail and a dark crown and eye-stripe. Whitish on the belly and throat with a pale yellow eyebrow and yellow under the base of the tail. Note the dark pinkish legs and the bicolored bill, dark above and orange below. Similar to Lemon-throated Leaf Warbler, but has a whitish throat. Differs from Arctic-type warblers in lacking any wingbars. Song consists of a lazy up-and-down sequence of high-pitched whistled notes.

Blue-winged Pitta
Pitta moluccensis
A beautiful, rainbow-colored inhabitant of tropical forests; often bolder than other pittas and occasionally seen in city parks, especially while on migration. Stunning, with green back, blue wings, orange belly, and black mask. Solitary outside of the breeding season; usually seen hopping around in leaf litter and turning over debris in search of invertebrates. Listen for its bouncy song, a series of loud “weuh-wheew!” phrases.

Buru Oriole
Oriolus bouroensis
A large gray-brown oriole with a straight, heavy bill. Main field mark is an ill-defined dark mask on the feathered face. Underparts paler than upperside. Juveniles display rufous-edged wings. Singles or pairs can be found in forest, forest edge, mangroves, and woodlands in lowlands and foothills. Similar to Buru Friarbird, but dark facial area is feathered, not bare; bill shape is thick and straight; and tail is shorter. Variable song consists of around three fluty notes, often rising and loudest on final note: “ku-wuWOOO.”

Collared Petrel
Pterodroma brevipes
A small gray-and-white petrel with a dark hood, a bold dark “M” pattern across the upperwings, and a distinctive bold black underwing pattern. Very variable. A pale morph resembles Gould’s Petrel, while a distinctive sooty-brown dark morph shows exceptionally bold underwing markings. Pale morph separated from Gould’s Petrel by its much bolder underwing pattern and its hood, which often meets below the neck, creating a full collar. Silent at sea.
