Russet-crowned Quail-Dove
Zentrygon goldmani
A plump ground-dwelling dove with limited range in eastern Panama and barely into Colombia. Brownish above with a grayer breast, whitish face, and reddish legs. Namesake rufous crown is distinctive. Most common in foothills from around 750–1,600 m, but sometimes lower. Like other quail-doves walks stealthily on the forest floor, singly or in pairs. Perhaps most easily seen beside quiet trails early and late in the day. Heard more often than seen.
识别特征
Male russet-crowned quail-doves are 26.5 to 28.5 cm (10.4 to 11.2 in) long and females 27 to 28 cm (11 to 11 in). Adults weigh about 258 g (9.1 oz). Audlt males of the nominate subspecies have a russet brown crown and nape with a lighter forehead and the rest of the face. They have a black malar stripe. The hindneck is brown and the upperparts and wings brown with a purple tinge. The throat and breast are gray, the belly whitish gray, and the flanks brown. The eye is orange with a red rim surrounded by bare gray skin, and there is a red spot in front of the eye. The legs and feet are red. The female's gray breast has a brown tinge and the wings are a less reddish brown than the male's. Juveniles' upperparts are dull buffy cinnamon and the underparts are dusky brown with reddish buff feather edges. Adults of Z. g. oreas are overall darker than the nominate but otherwise similar.
分类信息
The russet-crowned quail-dove was originally described in genus Geotrygon, then later placed in genus Oreopelia, and later still in its present Zentrygon. It is thought to be closely related to the lined quail-dove (Z. linearis). It has two subspecies, the nominate Z. g. goldmani and Z. g. oreas.

The nominate subspecies of russet-crowned quail-dove is resident from Panama's eastern Panamá Province through Darién Province into extreme northwestern Colombia. Z. g. oreas is found in eastern Panama but west of the nominate. It inhabits subtropical forest in foothills and lower highlands, generally at elevations between 750 and 1,600 m (2,460 and 5,250 ft) but as low as 90 m (300 ft) in Colombia.

The russet-crowned quail-dove usually feeds on the forest floor; its diet is primarily seeds.<p>Essentially nothing is known about the russet-crowned quail-dove's breeding phenology.<p>The russet-crowned quail-dove's song is "a single slightly overslurred note 'wOuu', sometimes sounding bi-syllabic."

Ochraceous Bulbul
Alophoixus ochraceus
A brownish-olive bulbul with a wispy crest and a puffy, glowingly white throat. Inhabits lowland and foothill forests, where it prefers primary or well-aged secondary growth. Forages in the middle and lower levels of forest, usually in small, noisy flocks. Calls consist primarily of loud, dry “chek” notes; variable song is pleasant and warbling. Extremely similar in appearance to closely related Puff-throated Bulbul, but smaller Ochraceous has darker and browner upperparts, duller yellow underparts, and a shorter crest.
Spectacled Owl
Pulsatrix perspicillata
Uncommon but unmistakable. Very large spectacular owl of humid evergreen forest in tropical lowlands and foothills. Often roosts at low to middle levels, usually well hidden in shady spots, and flushes easily. At night, favors open forest canopy and forest edge, but calling birds can be well hidden in foliage. Song is a resonant, pulsating series of deep hoots, sounding rather like a sheet of metal being flexed quickly; an uncommon variant call of the Mottled Owl sounds rather similar.
Chapman's Antshrike
Thamnophilus zarumae
Attractive antbird restricted to arid Andean slopes in southwestern Ecuador and northwestern Peru. Male is gray and white with a barred breast, back, and tail, streaked face and throat, black crest, and buffy belly. Female is brown and buff with a darker crest, black-and-white streaked face, and very faint barring on the breast. No overlap with the similar Barred Antshrike. Inhabits dry forest and scrub. Jaunty song starts with a fast series of clucks and ends with a few higher-pitched notes followed by lower-pitched notes.
