Burmese Nuthatch
Sitta neglecta
Gray with a slender black mask and warm underparts. Male has white extending from the throat onto the cheeks, and averages darker below than the female, which also lacks the male’s white cheek patch. Very similar to Chestnut-bellied Nuthatch, but overlap is minimal. Inhabits dry broadlaef and pine forests in lowland and foothill areas. Creeps about on tree trunks, often in small bands or with other species. Calls include upslurred trills, harsh rattles, and a ringing, repeated “jweeyeh.”

Horsfield's Babbler
Malacocincla sepiaria
A small, dull babbler with a short tail. Brown with a gray head and pale underparts. Dark gray crown, faintly streaked breast, and brighter buffy wash on the flanks eliminate similar-looking Abbott’s Babbler. Similarly drab White-chested and Sooty-capped babblers have longer tails and bills. Found in lowland and foothill forests. Typical song is a sharp chip followed by a whistled note or two: “chi puh-weee!”; Javan birds add a longer, ascending whistle to the end.

Dusky Eagle-Owl
Ketupa coromanda
A very large, grayish-brown owl with yellow eyes and distinctive ears. Note the fine barring and dark streaks on the pale underparts, and white patches on the shoulders. In flight, wings and tail are strongly barred below. Perches in tall trees, usually near a water body, where it waits for birds and mammals to pounce upon. The call is a distinctive series of low, guttural notes that increase in volume and speed before trailing off towards the end.

Carib Grackle
Quiscalus lugubris
Common in northern South America and the Lesser Antilles. Found in a variety of open habitats, including around towns and cities, especially abundant along the coast. Male is glossy black with a pointed bill and a yellow eye. Tail is fairly long and wedge-shaped. Females are dark grayish-brown with slightly paler on underparts and a yellow eye. Smaller and shorter-tailed than Great-tailed Grackle.
