Camiguin Hanging-Parrot

A small rainforest starling with a short square tail. In poor light, can look completely black, but usually shows a purple head; the rest of the body and wing are black with blue gloss. Even in bad viewing conditions, the pale eye is obvious. Found in lowland rainforest, gallery forest, and along forest edge. Often in small groups. Very similar to Purple-headed Starling, but ranges don’t overlap, and easily separated by the yellow eye. Found in the same habitat as Splendid Starling, but much smaller, with a shorter and narrower tail. The vocalizations include nasal whistles and scratchy notes. 

Small snow-white heron with slender dark bill, blackish legs, and yellowish feet ("golden slippers"). Breeding adult has 2 long wispy head plumes and a spray of white plumes ("aigrettes") on the lower back. Inhabits a wide variety of wetlands: lakes, rivers, marshes, estuaries—almost anywhere with small fish. Occurs as singles or small loose groups; nests and roosts communally. Distinctive within its range, but compare with larger Great and Intermediate Egrets, stockier Cattle Egret, and white morph reef herons.

A slim, long-billed sunbird in which breeding males and females are very different. Breeding males are mostly dark green with a red-and-yellow band across the underparts, and a black belly. Females are plain, with gray-brown upperparts and white underparts tinged with yellow. Found in a wide variety of open habitats including savanna, woodland, and gardens. Similar to Black-bellied Sunbird, but breeding males are separated by the more extensive yellow in their belly band, and females by their reduced streaking below. Little or no range overlap with Beautiful Sunbird, but if in doubt the black belly of breeding male Gorgeous Sunbird will identify it. The common call is a quiet chipping, and the song is a high-pitched jumble typical of sunbirds.
