Ochre-rumped Antbird

Rotund bird with long legs and a short tail restricted to Colombia’s Santa Marta Mountains. It is mostly brown with a tawny breast, pale belly, and short mustache stripe. Similar to Rusty-breasted Antpitta, but larger, longer-legged, and found at higher elevations. Usually stays on the ground inside cloud forest where it is hard to see, but sometimes perches higher to sing and may venture out into the open just before dawn. Gives a short, burry whistle every few seconds as well as a longer, descending trill. Formerly considered to be a subspecies of what used to be called Rufous Antpitta.

Small honeyeater of open forest, heathland, and coastal areas of northern Cape York. Black above, paler with dark streaking below, with small grayish cheek patch, yellow spot behind the eye, messy white throat feathers, and large yellow wing panels. Blackish bill with bluish base.

High-elevation hummingbird endemic to the Andes of southern Ecuador. Plumage is mostly green with a purple throat, and tail is blue on top and greenish underneath. Bill is short and straight. Female has underparts scaled with gray or buff. Compared to the common and widespread Tyrian Metaltail, Violet-throated lacks a rusty tail and has a purple (not green or buffy) throat. Inhabits montane scrub and edge of stunted forest. Most sightings come from in and around Cajas National Park.
