Blue-rumped Manakin
Lepidothrix isidorei
Small manakin found in cloud forest along the east slope of the Andes. Male is black with a white crown and blue rump; rump is paler in the southernmost part of its range. Female is mostly green but a bit yellower on face and belly. Apart from his blue rump, which is not always conspicuous, male is quite similar to male White-crowned Manakin. Female is very similar to female Blue-crowned Manakin but is yellower on the face. Usually found alone, but several may congregate at a fruiting tree. Calls include an inflected chirp and a high-pitched, rising “see?.”

Tanimbar Eclectus
Eclectus riedeli
Robust, big-headed, and rather short-tailed parrot endemic to the Tanimbar Islands, where it inhabits lowland and foothill forests. Male bright green with red underwings and orange bill, female bright red with dark underwings and bill. Usually seen flying above forests at first light, squawking loudly. Calls include an ear-shattering, high-pitched squawk, as well as a loud, grating shree. Formerly grouped with other closely related species under “Eclectus Parrot.”

Papyrus Yellow-Warbler
Calamonastides gracilirostris
Mid-sized, long-billed warbler, with rich yellow underparts and an olive-green back. The underparts often show an orange tint. Found in papyrus swamp. Very localized and poorly known species. The song consists of simple repeated phrases and is easily missed. Other yellow-warblers are similar but have different songs, lack orange tones to the underparts, and are found in different habitats.

White-throated Tyrannulet
Mecocerculus leucophrys
Distinctive small flycatcher of montane forest from 2,800–3,500 m, occasionally lower in some places. Namesake white throat is quite conspicuous and often looks slightly puffed out. Note dark wings with obvious wingbars (distinctively cinnamon in some parts of range, but whitish in other places) and long tail and upright posture. Fairly common; pairs or small groups are usually conspicuous in mixed-species flocks at the edge of forest and in scrubby habitats.
