Arabian Wheatear
Oenanthe lugentoides
A dark wheatear in which males and females are very different. Males are black above, with a dark-streaked whitish cap, and white below. Females have a dark brown back and lightly streaked paler underparts. Both sexes have a buff undertail and a black-and-buff tail with a “T” pattern. The tail pattern is conspicuous in flight, as are white panels in the outer wings. Found in dry, rocky areas, usually with at least some trees and shrubs. The song consists of short, musical sequences of whistles and chattering notes, which are repeated after short pauses. Separated from similar wheatears with overlapping ranges by the combination of rufous undertail, and white outer wing panels.

Dusky Sunbird
Cinnyris fuscus
A small sunbird. The male is dark overall, with a pale lower belly and orange tufts at the shoulder that are sometimes hidden. The female is plain gray-brown with a paler lower belly. Singles and pairs prefer arid scrub and savanna, feeding on insects and nectar. The species is nomadic and can irrupt in large numbers into areas where it is normally irregular, often on the fringes of its range. The female Dusky Sunbird has paler underparts than the similar female Southern Double-collared Sunbird.
Streak-headed Antbird
Drymophila striaticeps
This stunning, long-tailed antbird is fond of bamboo thickets within or at the edge of montane forest. Male is streaked with black and white on the head, breast, and back, with a warm tawny belly and rump. The long tail feathers have white tips. Female is equally streaky but is buffy instead of white. Found from about 1,500–2,500 m in the Andes, above the elevation range of any similar species. Usually quite skulky, but listen for the distinctive raspy song, starting with two stronger introductory notes and ending with two or three longer wheezy notes.
Doherty's Bushshrike
Telophorus dohertyi
Beautiful bird with an olive back, red throat and forehead, yellow belly, and black chest band. There is a rare morph in which the red is replaced with yellow. Found in the undergrowth of montane forest. Skulking bird that is most often located by voice: a perky “chuwit-chuwit-chuwit.” Range does not overlap with the similar Four-colored Bushshrike.
