Santa Marta Antpitta
Grallaria bangsi
Plump, terrestrial bird found only in the Santa Marta Mountains of Colombia. Like other antpittas, it is short-tailed and long-legged. Orange throat and streaked underparts help separate it from other ground birds. It is shy and normally very hard to see, but sometimes visits feeding stations in and around El Dorado Nature Reserve. Frequently gives two clear, emphatic whistles; the second note is slightly higher in pitch.

Indian Scops-Owl
Otus bakkamoena
Medium-sized scops-owl with prominent ear tufts and dark eyes. Coloration variable, ranging from gray to brown, but dark eyes, thin black border around the facial disc, and lightly streaked underparts remain constant. Gives bouncy amphibian-like barks at changing intervals. Inhabits forests, forest edges, parks, and gardens from lowlands up into foothill and montane regions.

Gray-necked Bunting
Emberiza buchanani
Medium-sized slender bunting with a relatively long bill. Distinctive; gray head, pale eye-ring, yellow “moustache” and warm underparts that range in color from buffy to rusty-red. Found in dry, rocky habitats such as mountainsides and arid plains. Song is a brief series of high ascending notes, typically ending with a final buzzy burst.

Spotted Owlet
Athene brama
A small uncrested owl with a round head and a short tail. It is grayish-brown overall with white spots above while its underparts are white with brown bars. Note the distinctive white eyebrows and neck-band. Often active at dawn and dusk when it utters a loud “chirurr-chirurr-chirurr” laugh in addition to a variety of high-pitched squeals and whistles. Inhabits all kinds of open habitats but avoids dense forest and wetter regions.
