Small Pratincole
Glareola lactea
Small bird that resembles a combination of a dove, a swallow, and a plover. Soft gray-brown with a tan wash on the throat and black lores. Black-and-white wing pattern prominent in flight. Flight agile and erratic, resembling a bat or swallow; frequently flies in flocks at dusk. Favors rocky or sandy islands in rivers, but can also be found in marshes, estuaries, and lakesides. Distinguished from other pratincoles in range by smaller size and gray plumage. Calls are a high rolling “chirrit!”, reminiscent of terns.

The small pratincole is a resident breeder in India, Western Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Thailand. It breeds from December to March on gravel or sand banks near rivers and lakes, laying 2–4 eggs in a ground scrape. Breeding areas include small areas in northern Karnataka (manvi district raichur.(and along the Hemavathi River) and northern Kerala near Kannur.<p>This species is only 16.5–18.5 cm (6.5–7.3 in) in length, with a 42–48 cm (17–19 in) wingspan. Because of its small size, the small pratincole can be briefly confused in flight with swifts or swallows.

Pitt Island Shag
Phalacrocorax featherstoni
A small, slender gray shag, with a slender bill, yellow legs and feet, and small dark spots on its shoulder and wing feathers. Feeds, roosts, and breeds around rocky shorelines of the Chatham Islands. The Chatham Islands Shag and the Great Cormorant are the only two similar species with overlapping range, distinguished by the white upper wing patch on the Chatham Islands Shag and the much darker overall appearance and larger size of the Great Cormorant. The Pitt Island Shag is the only shag found on the Chatham islands to have yellow legs and feet.

Jocotoco Antpitta
Grallaria ridgelyi
Large antpitta with a tiny range in southeast Ecuador. Unmistakable. Typical antpitta shape: plump and short-tailed with long legs, like a grapefruit on stilts. Brown above and pale silvery-gray below with a black cap and thick white mustache patch. Rare and local on or near the ground in the upper subtropical zone from around 2,300 to 2,600 m; especially fond of bamboo patches. Essentially never seen away from the Tapichalaca Reserve in Ecuador, where several birds have been trained to eat worms.

Speckled Tinkerbird
Pogoniulus scolopaceus
A distinctive, large-billed tinkerbird of forest and forest edge, yellow-green below and olive-green above with streaked underparts and scalloped upperparts. Unique among co-occurring tinkerbirds for its lack of bold facial markings. Voice is a fast, almost froglike “popopopopopopo,” as well as occasional hollow calls reminiscent of other tinkerbirds. Also gives short, raspy nasal calls.
