Masked Bowerbird
Sericulus aureus
A very colorful bowerbird of foothill and lower montane forests. Male is bright orange and yellow with a black face, edge to the wing and tail. Female has yellow underparts and a brown back with brown scaling on the chest. Forages for fruit in the canopy but perches out in the early morning. Golden Myna is superficially similar, although the male Masked Bowerbird lacks the black back and belly. Call, a loud rasping note that sounds rather like a taser.

Cape Barren Goose
Cereopsis novaehollandiae
Very large, heavy-set pale gray goose found across parts of coastal southern Australia. Note pale yellow and slightly drooping bill. Mostly seen as pairs or loose flocks scattered around coastal wetlands, salt marshes, and grassy pasture areas.

Brushland Tinamou
Nothoprocta cinerascens
Small, short-necked tinamou of the chaco region of the central Southern Cone. Most often detected by voice. From similar White-bellied Nothura, with which its range partly overlaps, by gray legs and brownish belly. Tends to prefer thorn forest with dense grass or scrubby understory, but can be seen along road sides. Song a 5-8 part flat whistle, given with progressively more emphasis.

White-tipped Sicklebill
Eutoxeres aquila
This streaky hummingbird has a remarkably decurved bill like a Velociraptor claw. The bill shape alone distinguishes it from all hummingbirds except the very similar Buff-tailed Sicklebill, which only overlaps in some areas of the range. Look at the tail pattern to separate the two species: White-tipped is well-named with only white tips on the tail feathers, while Buff-tailed has more extensive buff on the outer tail feathers. Sicklebills are most often seen feeding on Heliconia flowers in the dark forest understory; they’re generally uncommon and fast-moving, difficult to get a look at. Does not visit feeders.
