Ochraceous Bulbul
Alophoixus ochraceus
A brownish-olive bulbul with a wispy crest and a puffy, glowingly white throat. Inhabits lowland and foothill forests, where it prefers primary or well-aged secondary growth. Forages in the middle and lower levels of forest, usually in small, noisy flocks. Calls consist primarily of loud, dry “chek” notes; variable song is pleasant and warbling. Extremely similar in appearance to closely related Puff-throated Bulbul, but smaller Ochraceous has darker and browner upperparts, duller yellow underparts, and a shorter crest.

The ochraceous bulbul (Alophoixus ochraceus) is a species of songbird in the bulbul family, Pycnonotidae. It is found from Southeast Asia to Sumatra. It is usually found in the mid-storey of broad-leaved evergreen and rainforests up to 1500 metres elevation.

The ochraceous bulbul was originally described in the genus Criniger until moved to the genus Alophoixus in 2009. Alternate names for the ochraceous bulbul include the brown white-throated bulbul and ochraceous bearded-bulbul.<p>Six subspecies are recognized:

Merops leschenaulti
Beautiful, dainty bee-eater with a bright reddish head and yellow throat. Dark “necktie” most noticeable when in flight overhead. Inhabits forest edge, wooded clearings, and open areas with clusters of trees; often uses exposed perches. Some populations undertake regional movements, vacating breeding grounds after the monsoons pass. Often gives bright chirrupy calls.

Huge unmistakable pied tanager with a very long tail and a white rump and belly. Note the yellow eyes contrasting with a glossy blue-black head, back, breast, and wings. The graduated tail is black and tipped in white. Found at forest edges, plantations, clearings, and gardens; occasionally associated with mixed-species flocks.
Three-striped Hemispingus
Microspingus trifasciatus
Small tanager with a boldly striped head. Olive gray above, tawny orange below, with a black face and crown and a white eyebrow. Found in high-elevation elfin forest around the treeline, where pairs and small groups may be found in mixed-species flocks with other tanagers.
