Cassin's Honeybird
Prodotiscus insignis
A small, upright honeyguide of forest and forest edge, where it forages for insects and flycatches into the open. Plumage is a relatively uniform olive-green to green, with a paler throat, small pale eye arcs, and bright white outer tail feathers that are obvious when flying out for insects. Similar to Green-backed Honeyguide and Wahlberg’s Honeyguide, but differs in range, in its overall greenish coloration including the belly, and in its clean white outer tail feathers. Voice is little known, but apparently gives a buzzy trill in flight that rises and falls in pitch.

Short-tailed Babbler
Pellorneum malaccense
Long-legged babbler with an almost nonexistent stump for a tail, found in primary and secondary evergreen lowland and foothill forest. Warm brown overall with paler underparts and a gray face with slightly moustached appearance. Upright stance and general profile make it seem almost pitta-like. Forages on or very close to the ground. Not as social as other forest babblers: typically encountered singly or in pairs. Calls are often dry and insect-like or mechanical. Song comprises a beginning phrase of dry chattering notes and a series of around half a dozen descending whistles.

Very large black gamebird with a red bill. Males have a white ventral region which is chestnut in females. Strongly associated with riparian environments, especially seasonally flooded forest and river islands, where it is quite arboreal. Now very rare over much of its range because of overhunting.
Little Flycatcher
Muscicapa epulata
An easily overlooked petite bird of lowland forests that frequents edges, clearings, and even old farms. A typical small, grayish flycatcher with a white throat and belly, a streaky gray chest, black legs, and a mostly dark bill with a pale base. Similar to other African flycatchers, especially Yellow-legged Flycatcher, but note the black legs and streaky chest. Song is a jumble of high-pitched notes and buzzes, and the flight call is a high-pitched “zee.”
