Somali Fiscal
Lanius somalicus
A small black, white, and gray shrike. The sexes look similar. Note the white patches at the bottom middle and near the end of the wing. Along with the white outer tail, these can be conspicuous in flight. Found in dry savanna and grassland. Perches up conspicuously, often in pairs. Very similar to Taita Fiscal, but has multiple white patches on each wing instead of just one. The repetitive vocalizations include scratchy notes, usually higher and rougher than those of Taita Fiscal, often delivered in a rising pattern.

The Somali fiscal Is found in East Africa, its range including much of Somalia, southern Djibouti, eastern and southern Ethiopia, southeastern South Sudan and northern Kenya. It is mainly found in open grassy habitats and semi-desert areas with some scrub. Where its range overlaps that of the Taita fiscal (Lanius dorsalis), that bird usually inhabits more densely-vegetated and less arid habitats.

Like other shrikes, the Somali fiscal perches in a position where it has a good view all round and pounces on any suitable prey it observes. It feeds mostly on large insects such as grasshoppers, mantises and beetles. Prey is sometimes impaled on thorns for consumption later, and small birds have sometimes been found in these larders. During the breeding season, it will defend the area around its nest, being prepared to attack any bird that ventures near up to the size of a raven. Breeding usually takes place in the rainy season. The nest is usually in a bush, some 1 to 1.5 m (3 to 5 ft) above the ground, with a clutch of four, or sometimes three, eggs being laid. Little is known of incubation and fledging times.

Andaman Green-Pigeon
Treron chloropterus
A large, dull-green pigeon with a thick pale bill and a gray forehead. The dark olive-green and maroon wings have contrasting yellow lines below the shoulders, and the undertail is dull yellow with green patches. Often flocks in large numbers, and feeds in the canopy on fruits and figs. The song is a distinctive low, nasal whistle.
Sahel Bush Sparrow
Gymnoris dentata
A drab sparrow of dry country. Males have a mostly gray head with a rufous eyebrow. Females have a broad pale eyebrow. Both sexes have a white throat. Found in savanna and broadleaf woodland. Similar to Yellow-throated Bush Sparrow, but separated by the eyebrow mark and the smaller size. Female is similar to female sparrows such as House Sparrow, but has a longer bill and a broader pale eyebrow stripe. The call is a ringing “chree,” often given in rapid series.
Red-eared Parakeet
Pyrrhura hoematotis
Green parakeet with a long red tail, blue wings, and red ear patch. Mostly seen in large flocks flying, eating fruits, or perching quietly in trees. Common in cloud forest and forest edges within its limited range. Voice similar to related species. Similar in flight to Painted Parakeet, but differs in having smaller red belly patch with green chest and head; distinguished from Rose-headed Parakeet by lack of red crown and lack of white patch in wings. Endemic to Venezuela in the Coastal Cordillera and a small area at the north end of the Andes.
