Moluccan Megapode
Eulipoa wallacei
A partridge-like bird with an olive upper body, a mostly gray underside, and broad chestnut bands across the back and wings. Also note the white base to the undertail. Terrestrial, inhabiting forest in lowlands and hills, but most often seen by visiting specific beaches where they come to lay their eggs in the sand at night. The only patridge-like species in range with broad chestnut bands above. Vocalizations, mostly at night, include a moaning “kouw-kouw-kouw” and harsh, agitated “kek” calls.

The Moluccan megapode (Eulipoa wallacei), also known as Wallace's scrubfowl, Moluccan scrubfowl or painted megapode, is a small, approximately 31 cm long, olive-brown megapode. The genus Eulipoa is monotypic, but the Moluccan megapode is sometimes placed in Megapodius instead. Both sexes are similar with an olive-brown plumage, bluish-grey below, white undertail coverts, brown iris, bare pink facial skin, bluish-yellow bill and dark olive legs. There are light grey stripes on reddish-maroon feathers on its back. The young has brownish plumage, a black bill, legs and hazel iris.

Arctic Warbler
Phylloscopus borealis
Dull, relatively unmarked olive-brown warbler with a prominent yellowish-white eyestripe, faint wingbars, and pale whitish underparts. Visually inseparable from Japanese and Kamchatka Leaf Warblers; listen for song, an electric chattery trill. Also gives a metallic two-noted call and a short harsh buzz. Breeds in shrubby areas, often near water, throughout the Eurasian taiga. Breeding range extends to Alaska, where it is the only leaf warbler. Winters in lowland and foothill forest, forest edge, and gardens, primarily in Southeast Asia.
Pavonine Cuckoo
Dromococcyx pavoninus
Bizarre looking cuckoo; small-headed with a very long, graduated tail. The head, neck and breast are rufous, but note the prominent rufous eyebrow. The white belly contrasts with the dark brown back, wings and tail, the latter with white tips. Found in lowland rainforest, forest edge, and second growth. Usually fiendishly hard to see. A brood parasite. The voice is a melodic, “puu-pe-pu-pepe” repeated endlessly day or night.
Inca Wren
Pheugopedius eisenmanni
Boldly patterned wren with a localized range in southern Peru. Reddish brown, with a black-and-white streaked face and breast and a bold white eyebrow. Larger and longer-tailed than the similar Gray-breasted Wood-Wren. Found in dense undergrowth of humid montane forest, often in bamboo thickets. Listen for its rollicking whistled song, usually given in duet.
