Red-headed Manakin
Ceratopipra rubrocapilla
A small chunky manakin. Males are mostly black with a red hood while females are olive-green above with a whitish belly. Inhabits humid forests and second growth where it forages in the mid-strata. Despite the male’s bright red hood, can be difficult to spot. Males gather in small groups to display for females known as a lek, but otherwise are normally seen singly. The call is a nasal “drree-dit.”

Dickinson's Kestrel
Falco dickinsoni
Medium-sized gray kestrel. Note the pale head, rump, and underwing, which are conspicuous in flight. Bright yellow eye ring and base of bill. Found in open savanna, preferring areas with baobabs and/or palms. Call is a repeated, vibrating “krrrr.” Similar to Gray Kestrel, but easily distinguished by paler head and underparts. Other small falcons do not have gray underparts.

Gilded Flicker
Colaptes chrysoides
Large woodpecker, very similar to Northern Flicker. Overall pale sandy brown with gray face and brown crown. Spotted below with black oval on chest. Underwing and shafts of flight feathers bright yellow. Males have red mustache stripe; sexes otherwise alike. Combination of face pattern and yellow in wings helps distinguish from both "Red-shafted" and "Yellow-shafted" Northern Flickers. Shows a strong affinity for saguaro cactus but also found in nearby woodland. Gives a piercing "kleer" call similar to Northern Flicker.

Andaman Shama
Copsychus albiventris
A large, long-legged, long-tailed robin-like bird. The face, breast, wings, and tail are glossy black, while the belly, lower back, and undertail are white. Feeds in the understory and on the ground, frequently raising its tail to reveal reddish-brown vent. Shy and inconspicuous in its wooded habitats, but its presence is often given away by its song, which consists of mellow guttural trills and whistles.
