Andaman Cuckoo-Dove
Macropygia rufipennis
A slim, long-tailed dove with small head and legs. Rust-colored throughout with faint barring around the neck and breast. Common but inconspicuous in forests and along forest edges, where birds feed on fruits and berries. Known to feed on the ground, but usually sticks closer to the canopy. The call is a thin, low, double-noted “whoo-whup.”

The Andaman Cuckoo-Dove lives in heavy evergreen and secondary forests. They are commonly found yet hidden in forests, along forest edges, and typically remain closer to the canopy. They have a high forest dependence and normally occur at altitudes that range from 0 to 100 meters. These species are endemic to India and distributed in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBA) of these cuckoo-dove species are Nicobar, Nancowry and Trinkat.

Aztec Thrush
Ridgwayia pinicola
Rather stocky, boldly patterned thrush of highland pine-oak and fir forest. Endemic to western and central Mexico. Found singly or in flocks, often associating with other thrushes at fruiting trees and bushes. Despite its striking plumage, can be difficult to see as its plumage blends well in sun-dappled foliage. Usually rather quiet, and can sit still for long periods. Male has blackish hood and upperparts with bold white patterning on wings and tail. Female paler and more grayish in areas where male is black.

Black-headed Siskin
Spinus notatus
Attractive small finch of highlands and foothills, mainly in drier habitats. Favors pine-oak forests, edges, and adjacent weedy clearings. Usually in small groups, which may associate with other finches and small seed-eating birds, especially when coming to drink. Adult is boldly patterned black and yellow with black hood and big yellow wing patch. Immature duller, without black hood; resembles female Lesser Goldfinch but note the yellow wing patches and pointed gray bill.

Flame-templed Babbler
Dasycrotapha speciosa
A small bird from lowland to low-elevation montane forest and edge on Panay and Negros. Has a gray back with fine pale streaks, golden flight feathers, a yellowish belly, a brighter yellow chest extending around the collar, a black head with black spots on the upper chest, and a yellow bill, forehead, chin, and short moustache stripe. Note the white-streaked cheek and the orange tufts on the back of the head. Often joins mixed-species flocks, where it methodically forages in the understory and at middle heights in the forest. Unmistakable. Song is a descending whistled warble.
