Brown-headed Gull
Chroicocephalus brunnicephalus
The pale button eyes of this gull give it a somewhat fearsome appearance. Breeding adult’s head is the color of milk chocolate, lightening towards the bill. Non-breeding and first-winter birds have a dark ear patch and faint traces of the dark hood. All plumages may be confused with smaller Black-headed Gull, but note pale eyes and more extensive black on the primaries in all plumages. Breeds on high-altitude lakes on the Tibetan Plateau and winters on marshes, estuaries, lakes and rivers, most often in coastal areas.

Large swift with long, angular, and pointed wings. Entirely black, sometimes with faint pale scaling on belly and forehead. Often fans tail in flight. Seen singly or in small flocks, usually in hilly or mountainous areas. Breeds on cliffs, often behind waterfalls. Slower wingbeats than other swifts. Chattering call notes lower-pitched than other swifts in range.

Andaman Bulbul
Microtarsus fuscoflavescens
A rather plain, rotund bulbul with a dark forehead, face, and throat. The upperparts are greenish, but note the dark olive edges to the wings and the dark tail band. The underparts and tail tips are yellow. Often silent and inconspicuous as it moves through the forest understory and lower canopy. The song consists of metallic tinkling notes, while the calls include soft single- and double-noted metallic sounds.

Thick-billed Berrypecker
Melanocharis crassirostris
A small, rare bird of mid-montane forest. Male is dark gray above and pale gray below with a slight, pale tuft on the side. Females are dark above with heavy white spotting; also note streaked pale belly and olive-edged flight feathers. Male is similar to female Mid-mountain and Fan-tailed Berrypeckers but is longer-billed and shorter-tailed. Female is similar to Mottled Berryhunter but is much smaller. Call is a thin, high-pitch “tsiip.”
