Sichuan Thrush
Zoothera griseiceps
Little-known thrush which breeds in the dense hilly and montane forests of China’s northern and central Sichuan province; favors dense understory and coniferous stands. Brown above with scaled white underparts. Grayish crown and heavier bill distinguish this species from similar Alpine Thrush, while short tail and lack of prominent “earmuffs” separate it from Long-tailed Thrush. Beautiful melodic song is rich and smooth, without many harsh notes.

White-rumped Munia
Lonchura striata
The only munia in its range with white on the lower back and rump. It has a blackish-brown head and back with pure white underparts and rump. Its back is finely streaked with pale shafts. Juvenile is rufous-brown with indistinct streaks above, rump buffy gray, breast light rufous, and underparts buffy gray. Races differ in the amount of white-and-gray streaking on the underparts and the extent of the blackish-brown on the head. Found in a variety of open landscapes including grasslands, shrubby open country, forest edges, thickets, plantations, village gardens, agricultural fields, and sometimes towns and cities.

White-shouldered Ibis
Pseudibis davisoni
Dark, burly medium-sized ibis. Restricted pale patches on the nape and shoulder distinguish this from all-dark ibises. Habitat preferences differ somewhat in two parts of disjunct range; Bornean birds favor mature riparian forests, while Indochinese birds are generally found in wet or flooded openings in dry forest and wooded plains. Forages singly, in pairs, or in small groups. Often disperses with the arrival of seasonal rains. Gives loud, resonating honks and croaking roars. Declining across range; status of Bornean population especially tenuous.

Collared Sparrowhawk
Tachyspiza cirrocephala
Small, delicately-built gray raptor with orange barring on chest and belly. When soaring, tail-tip is notched when not fanned out. When perched, look for a tiny bill, blank-staring expression (no heavy brow), and very skinny legs. Much less likely to circle high in sky than Brown Goshawk, and tends to stick to cover.
