East Brazilian Chachalaca
Ortalis araucuan
Medium-sized chachalaca. Has a rufous crown and speckled throat and breast, contrasting with white underparts. Occurs in wooded areas including second growth, caatinga, and coastal forest, where it forages mostly in trees and occasionally descends to the ground. Usually found in small groups of less than eight individuals. Like other chachalacas, very noisy, emitting a loud rollicking duet “ha-ga-GAA-gogok” repeated continually.

Red-capped Cardinal
Paroaria gularis
Small, boldly colored tanager found in vegetation around lakes and rivers. Bright red head and black-and-white plumage are instantly recognizable. Quite social and often found in pairs or groups as they forage low in waterside vegetation. Frequently perches on branches sticking out of the water.
Red-fronted Barbet
Tricholaema diademata
A medium-sized black-and-white barbet. Note the red patch above the bill and the white eyebrow and breast. Immatures lack the red patch above the bill. There is some geographical variation, mainly in the amount of spotting on the underparts. Found in dry woodland and savanna. Similar to Spot-flanked and Black-throated Barbets, but easily separated by the lack of a black throat patch. The vocalizations are a long, descending series of hoots and a nasal “yank” note.
Spotted Bowerbird
Chlamydera maculata
A brownish, mottled, strongly marked bowerbird with warm brown tones overall and a small pink crest on the nape. Loud rasping calls include hisses and squawks. Occurs in open woodlands, as well as in gardens and town parks within its range. Males decorate their avenue bowers with pale objects such as small bones and shells. Western Bowerbird is paler, and its range is further west. Spotted Bowerbird lives in inland portions of Queensland and New South Wales.
