Collared Myna
Acridotheres albocinctus
A dark myna with a creamy collar. Generally uncommon throughout its restricted range; often found on agricultural fields and on the outskirts of villages and rural towns. Usually mixes with other myna and starling species, particularly Crested and Great Mynas, in whose flocks it tends to be a minority, but its prominent smudgy collar makes it readily identifiable even from a distance.

Rufous-sided Honeyeater
Ptiloprora erythropleura
A medium-sized honeyeater of montane forest in western New Guinea. Dark gray-brown back and wings with pale rufous edges to the flight feathers, gray face and chest with deep rufous flanks. Faint streaking overall, strongest on the head. Similar to Gray-streaked but Rufous-sided is smaller with less distinct streaking and red rather than gray eyes. Call, a mournful, whistled up-and-down “wiiiiuuuu” or down-up-down “piiuuweew”.

Grass Wren
Cistothorus platensis
Tiny, bubbly, buffy-colored wren of dense grassy or shrubby habitats. Fairly common but locally distributed from central Mexico to the southernmost tip of South America; surely comprises multiple species. Occurs from open grasslands and marshes at sea level up to paramo in the high Andes. Generally secretive, but perches up when singing. Generally pale brownish with complex patterning on upperparts; compare with much plainer House Wren. Variable voice, usually including harsh chips, buzzes, and trills.

Mountain Swiftlet
Aerodramus hirundinaceus
A common, mid-sized swiftlet found over forests and open areas, mainly in the mountains. Slender shape and a notched tail that it sometimes fans. Gray-brown with a contrasting darker tail and forewing. Often seen in flocks and can fly at all levels. Does long glides with tips of the wings held down slightly, and sometimes tipping from side to side. Not safely distinguished from the lowland Uniform Swiftlet. Call, a high-pitch, up-and-down chatter including some grating notes.
