Australian Brushturkey
Alectura lathami
Large black bird with a vertically-fanned tail and massive strong legs and feet. Obvious red head. Male develops large yellow pendulous neck wattles (mauve in Cape York subspecies). Endemic resident of tropical rainforests along the eastern coast of Australia. It can be a common in cosmopolitan parks and gardens in places such as Cairns, Brisbane. Roosts at night very high up in trees. Builds large nest-mounds of leaves and mulch.

The Australian brushturkey inhabits rainforests and wet sclerophyll forests, but can also be found in drier scrubs and open areas. In the northern part of its range, the Australian brushturkey is most common at higher altitudes, but individuals move to the lowland areas in winter. In the south, it is common in both mountain and lowland regions.<p>Brushturkeys are now common in urban environments and can be found in backyards in both Brisbane and Sydney.<p>The range of the Australian brushturkey extends from the top of Cape York to approximately the area around Wollongong.

Red-lored Whistler
Pachycephala rufogularis
Chunky gray songbird with a heavy black bill found in dry forest and bushland in parts of semi-arid southern Australia. Male has pale orange throat that extends above bill, gray breast, and paler belly. Female similar, but plumage tones more muted and paler. Compare Gilbert’s Whistler, which is darker in front of the eye, and the orange chin does not extend above the bill. Many different calls, including a repeated "chew-chew-chew-chew," a Rufous-Whistler-like "eee-chong," and other tuneful whistles.
Mouse-colored Sunbird
Cyanomitra veroxii
Large, gray sunbird with a long, down-curved bill. The wings and tail are blackish, while the underparts are paler than the back. Can show red tufts on the shoulders, though these are usually concealed. Found in forest, mangroves, and scrub at low elevations, mostly near the coast. Most distinctive vocalization is a short series of “chyep” notes that usually goes up then down. Olive Sunbird is similar, but Mouse-colored Sunbird is gray rather than olive-green.
Northern Gannet
Morus bassanus
Large seabird of the Atlantic with long, pointed bill, wings, and tail. Adults bright white with cream-colored head and black wingtips. Takes several years to reach adult plumage; juveniles are all sooty-brown and slowly acquire more white as they mature. Nests in enormous colonies on cliffs in the North Atlantic. Spends most of its life at sea, although often fairly close to land, so they are often visible from shore or on whale watching boats. Dives torpedolike into the ocean for fish. Gathers in large feeding flocks, but sometimes solitary.
