Crimson-collared Tanager
Ramphocelus sanguinolentus
Beautiful tanager of humid tropical lowlands. Favors evergreen forest edge and verdant second growth. Forages unobtrusively at all levels in trees and bushes, usually in pairs. Sexes alike: velvety black overall with a bright bluish-white bill and a glossy crimson collar and rump.
识别特征
Crimson-collared tanagers average 19–20 cm (7.5–8 in) long. The adult plumage is black with a red collar covering the nape, neck, and breast (remarkably similar to the pattern of the male crimson-collared grosbeak). All tail coverts are also red. The bill is striking pale blue and the legs are blue-gray. In adults, the irides are crimson, contrary to what is shown in Howell and Webb. Females average slightly duller than males, but are sometimes indistinguishable from them. Juvenile birds are similar except that the hood is dull red, the black areas are tinged with brown, and the breast is mottled red and black. Young birds also have a duller bill color.
Vocalizations are high-pitched and sibilant. There are several calls; one rendered as ssii-p is given both when perched and in flight. The song is jerky and consists of two-to-four-note phrases separated by pauses, tueee-teew, chu-chee-wee-chu, teweee.
分类信息
This species is sometimes placed in a genus of its own as Phlogothraupis sanguinolenta, and a genetic study suggests that it is less closely related to the other Ramphocelus tanagers than they are to each other. Its closest relative is the masked crimson tanager.[citation needed]

行为
The nest is a cup built of such materials as moss, rootlets and strips of large leaves such as banana or Heliconia[citation needed], and is placed at middle height in a tree at a forest edge. The female usually lays two eggs, pale blue with blackish spots.
Because the species is not threatened, the population size is very large and the trend appears to be stable, the species is evaluated as Least Concern.

Fawn-breasted Tanager
Pipraeidea melanonota
Small sleek tanager with distinctive color pattern: pale sandy underparts with peachy blush on breast, black mask, powdery-blue crown, and darker blue back and wings. Sexes alike. Uncommon in second growth, edges, and gardens, where it is most often seen singly or in pairs. Occasionally follows mixed-species flocks. Found from foothills to upper subtropical zone in Andes, sometimes straying even higher. Populations in southeastern South America occur at lower elevations.

Reed Bunting
Emberiza schoeniclus
Chunky bunting, found in wetlands with reed beds and scattered bushes; also in farmland and other open areas with bushes and hedges. In the spring and summer, male gives his halting song from a prominent perch, showing off distinctive black-and-white head pattern (pattern muted in winter). Female streaky overall, much like other buntings, with boldly striped head. Compare with very similar Pallas’s Bunting, note rusty shoulders, thicker and more conical bill, dark brownish rump. White outer tail feathers often show in flight. Calls include a quiet, mellow “tsew” and buzzy notes.

Nilgiri Wood-Pigeon
Columba elphinstonii
Uncommon smooth gray pigeon with dark rusty-red wings. Black-and-white barred neck pattern only visible if seen well. Inhabits wet forests in hilly and montane areas, where it typically forages quietly up in the canopy; occasionally descends down to feed on the ground. Occasionally gives low sonorous coos.
