Xavier's Greenbul
Phyllastrephus xavieri
A relatively colorful greenbul with an olive-green back, yellowish underparts, and a rufous tail. Found in the understory and at middle levels of rainforest, usually in small flocks. Readily joins mixed-species flocks, often alongside Icterine Greenbuls. Very similar in appearance to that species and best distinguished by voice, but slightly larger-billed, with less red on the tail and uppertail. The call is a slow series of nasal barking notes, quite different from the faster and higher-pitched series of notes given by Icterine Greenbul.

Xavier's greenbul was originally described in the genus Xenocichla (a synonym for Bleda). Some authorities have considered Xavier's greenbul to be a subspecies of the icterine greenbul. The name commemorates the French explorer Xavier Dybowski who collected natural history specimens in the Congo. Alternate names for Xavier's greenbul include the greater icterine bulbul, greater icterine greenbul and Uganda icterine bulbul.<p>Two subspecies are recognized:

Emperor Penguin
Aptenodytes forsteri
Truly a royal and commanding presence, this largest of the penguins is seldom seen away from Antarctica and its surrounding seas, though young birds do disperse beyond the pack ice. Immense size and unique coloration readily distinguish this species from most other penguins; King Penguin is similar in patterning, but is smaller, longer-billed, less bulky overall, and has brighter and more extensive orange markings on the head. Breeds in immense colonies on the ice, with males famously spending months tending to the egg. Gives impressive trumpeting cries, especially during courtship.
Brown-capped Pygmy Woodpecker
Yungipicus nanus
Small woodpecker of open forest and forest edge. Note size, pale eyes, and broad-striped head pattern. Darkness of the crown varies; palest in northern and peninsular India and darkest in Sri Lanka. Where it overlaps with Gray-capped Woodpecker, note the more “blocky” head pattern, pale eyes, and white-spotted tail of Brown-capped. Gives a short chittering trill that rises and falls quickly.
Echo Parakeet
Psittacula eques
Fairly large, long-tailed bright green parakeet of the island of Mauritius. Males have a red bill, a black chin, and a pink-and-black collar. Females are duller, with a black bill. Endangered; found locally in and around remnant patches of humid forest. The call is a honking, nasal “kraa” that is usually repeated in quick sequence, lower-pitched than the typical high-pitched shrieks of Rose-ringed Parakeet. Very similar in appearance to that species, but separated by vocalizations, richer green overall plumage, and shorter and broader wings; females are easily separated by their black rather than red bills.
