Bearded Scrub-Robin
Tychaedon quadrivirgata
Pretty robin with a brown back, boldly marked face, and unstreaked rufous chest. Found in broadleaved woodland, moist savanna, and thickets. Shy bird that generally skulks in thick undergrowth. Song is a variable, musical series of whistles. Certain two-noted phrases can be repeated many times. Similar to Red-backed Scrub-Robin, but lacks white wings bars, and shows a rufous breast without streaks.

Its length is 15–17 cm (5.9–6.7 in), and its weight is approximately 20–31 g (0.71–1.09 oz). The male and female are alike, with the female being slightly smaller. The crown and upperparts are mostly dark olive-brown. The tail is dark brown, with the outer feathers having white tips. The wing coverts are grey-brown with olive-brown edges. The flight feathers are dark brown, with a white patch. On the face, there are a white supercilium, a white crescent shape below the eye, a white moustachial line, and a black malar stripe. There are also black lines above the supercilia. The eyes are dark brown and the lores are black. The throat and upper breast are white. The breast and neck-sides are rufous-brown to rufous. The belly and undertail coverts are white. The beak is black, and the legs are pinkish-brown. The juvenile is paler brown, with black patterns on its crown and back, and its underparts are buff, with dark patterns. C. q. greenwayi has greyer upperparts, a duller rump, and a paler breast.
分类信息
This species was described as Thamnobia quadrivirgata by Reichenow in 1879. It was formerly placed in the genus Erythropygia. It forms a superspecies with the forest scrub robin, miombo scrub robin and brown scrub robin. These four species are sometimes placed in the genus Tychaedon. Two subspecies of C. quadrivirgata are recognized: C. q. greenwayi in the Zanzibar and Mafia Islands, and C. q. quadrivirgata in the rest of the range. The specific epithet quadrivirgata means "four-striped" in Latin. The species is so named because of four diagnostic stripes on its face.

It is found in Botswana, Eswatini, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, with a distribution size estimated at 5,390,000 km2 (2,080,000 sq mi). It is mostly found at elevations of below about 1,000 m (3,300 ft). Its occurs in sand forests, riverine woodland, scrubs, evergreen forests, and sometimes gardens and reedbeds, but usually not in damp areas. In the 1950s, deforestation near Hluhluwe and False Bay destroyed some of its habitat, but in some areas, its range may have expanded. In the 1940s, tsetse deterrent was sprayed in Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, and bearded scrub robins disappeared, but they recolonized the area by 1975. The species has also expanded into Matobo National Park and Richards Bay.

Gorgeous Sunbird
Cinnyris melanogastrus
A slim, long-billed sunbird in which breeding males and females are very different. Breeding males are mostly dark green with a red-and-yellow band across the underparts, and a black belly. Females are plain, with gray-brown upperparts and white underparts tinged with yellow. Found in a wide variety of open habitats including savanna, woodland, and gardens. Similar to Black-bellied Sunbird, but breeding males are separated by the more extensive yellow in their belly band, and females by their reduced streaking below. Little or no range overlap with Beautiful Sunbird, but if in doubt the black belly of breeding male Gorgeous Sunbird will identify it. The common call is a quiet chipping, and the song is a high-pitched jumble typical of sunbirds.

A small and virtually tailless warbler with a gray-brown back and buff underparts. There is a pale eyebrow and throat patch. The bill is unusually long and downcurved for a crombec. Generally uncommon in dry thorn savanna and thornscrub. Sometimes joins mixed flocks. The song is a quick jumble of squeaky, whistled notes. The calls include a short, fast rattle. Separated from all other crombecs in its range by the long bill.
Singing Quail
Dactylortyx thoracicus
Small, retiring quail of forest understory. Rarely seen, but can be located by listening for noisy rustling in the leaf litter as birds scratch like chickens. Prefers to run away rather than flush. Loud song often reveals its presence, given mainly early and late in the day: first few notes similar to Little Tinamou song, but then breaks into rollicking choruses that can be almost deafening if close by. Male has rusty face and gray body, female colors reversed, with gray face and rusty body.
