Subdesert Brush-Warbler
Nesillas lantzii
Medium-sized pale-brown bird with a long, spiky tail. Endemic to Madagascar, where it is found in southwestern spiny forest and scrub. Skulks in thick undergrowth. Incessantly given call is a Geiger counter-like ticking. Paler brown than Madagascar Brush-Warbler, with a higher-pitched call and little overlap in range. Similar to Madagascar Swamp-Warbler, but is paler, has less distinct breast streaking and a white eyebrow, and is generally found in scrub or spiny forest rather than marsh.

Abdim's Stork
Ciconia abdimii
A medium-sized, dark stork with a white belly. This gregarious African migrant often appears in huge nomadic flocks numbering in the thousands, normally in response to heavy rains or large fires, after which they forage on insect emergences. It prefers open grassland and woodland but also uses wetland margins and fields. Could be confused with the more solitary Black Stork, but Abdim’s Stork is smaller, has a white rump, and has a green-gray (not red) bill and dull (not bright red) legs.

Black-bellied Hummingbird
Eupherusa nigriventris
Distinctive small hummingbird. Male has mostly black body and bright white outer tail feathers, a combination unlike any other hummingbird species. Female is mostly whitish below instead of black, and resembles female Stripe-tailed Hummingbird; look for extensive white in her tail and small rufous wing patch. Limited range, found in montane forests and edges. Visits feeders and gardens.

Socorro Wren
Troglodytes sissonii
Only found on Socorro Island, where it is the only wren. Occurs in woodland, brushy thickets, and scrubby vegetation, often in pairs or family groups. Forages at all levels, sometimes out on open ground and among intertidal rocks; often holds its fairly long tail cocked up. Overall sandy brown to grayish brown, paler below, with a paler eyebrow, dark barring on wings and tail. Overall buffier and slightly longer-billed than House Wren, which might occur as rare migrant on Socorro.
