Andean Duck
Oxyura ferruginea
Small, compact duck with a long, fan-shaped tail, often held sticking up out of water. Breeding males have a chestnut body, black head, and baby-blue bill. Nonbreeding males and females are variably brown overall, often with a smudgy dark face and a dark line through the cheek. Occurs in pairs or loose flocks, bobbing like corks on lakes in the Andes from central Colombia to southern Chile. Dives to forage on aquatic invertebrates. Not often seen flying.
识别特征
These are small, compact ducks with stout, scoop-shaped bills, and long, stiff tails they often hold cocked upward. They have slightly peaked heads and fairly short, thick necks. In summer, they have rich chestnut bodies with bright blue bills. In winter, they are dull gray-brown above and paler below with dull gray bills. Females and first-year males are brownish, somewhat like winter males but with a blurry stripe across the pale cheek patch. It is separable from the ruddy duck by its all-black face and larger size.

Gray-naped Antpitta
Grallaria griseonucha
Plump, medium-sized bird with long legs, short bill, and very short tail: the typical antpitta shape. Mostly rufous overall with gray nape and lores. Sexes similar. Solitary and very shy and difficult to see, little known about its habits. Mostly near streams, on or close to ground in forest edges, tree falls, elfin forest, and mossy cloud forest. Easy to find by voice, a series of low whistled notes “wü, wü-wü-wü…wüwü.” Endemic to the Andes of Venezuela.
Black-chinned Robin
Leucophantes brachyurus
A medium-sized bird of lowland and foothill forest interior. Black upperparts, head and narrow band across the chin, white underparts, prominent white eyebrow, and patch in the wing. Sits still in the understory, often perching on trucks or vertical branches. Very similar to Black-sided Robin and co-occurs in some areas, but Black-chinned lacks the black on the sides of the chest, has a broader white eyebrow and a black chin. Song, a simple series of breathless whistled notes, first descending then rising at the end.
White-vented Euphonia
Euphonia minuta
Tiny, generally uncommon finch of humid evergreen forest and edge in tropical lowlands. Usually in pairs, which associate readily with other euphonias, especially when feeding at mistletoe. Male has black head and throat with yellow forehead patch and white vent (vent yellow on Scrub Euphonias in same range). Yellow breast is richer, more golden yellow than Scrub Euphonia. Female rather drab but distinctive: pale grayish throat contrasts with dull yellowish breast and vent is white like male.
