Mindanao Jungle Flycatcher
Vauriella goodfellowi
A medium-sized bird of mossy montane forest understory on Mindanao. Large for a flycatcher. Dark brown above, with pale gray-brown chest and sides and a white throat and belly. Note the white spectacles and forehead with a thin black eye-ring and black line connecting the eye and bill. Somewhat similar to Chestnut-tailed Flycatcher, but found at higher elevations and has obvious black-and-white lines in front of the eye. Voice includes high-pitched metallic whistles and a sharp “tsik!”

Snowy Plover
Anarhynchus nivosus
Small, pale plover with broken collar. In breeding plumage, black ear patch is distinctive. Thin black bill separates from other small plovers at all times of year. Also note relatively long, grayish legs. Typically uncommon. Found on sandy beaches on the coast and inland; usually singly or in small loose flocks. Larger numbers gather at key sites after breeding in summer and fall. Quickly darts around searching for invertebrates in the sand.

Manus Monarch
Symposiachrus infelix
A medium-sized pied monarch with a mostly black head and chest and a large white ear patch. Belly white. Upperparts and wings black with a large white wing patch. Tail black with white outer feathers. On outer islands, has white tail tipped black. Found in most habitats with trees. Voice includes a series of high-pitched whistles and chattering scolding notes.

Chestnut-naped Forktail
Enicurus ruficapillus
The scaly breast of this forktail makes it unmistakable, but its most striking feature is the bright rufous crown and nape, and in the case of the female, the upper back as well. Found along forested streams in lowland and foothills, where it can often be found perched on waterside rocks. Can be quite shy, flushing away into better-covered recesses when disturbed. Gives high thin whistles.
