Godlewski's Bunting
Emberiza godlewskii
This large bunting is a common sight in dry open areas such as fields and rocky slopes. The male is brown with a gray-and-brown head pattern that is unique within this species’ range. The female has a pale head with a ghost of the male’s pattern. Often found perched boldly on boulders, exposed branches, and telephone wires, from which the male sings a long jumbled song started off by a short, sharp introductory note.

Dusky Spinetail
Synallaxis moesta
An exceptionally shy spinetail found in cloud forest along the east slope of the Andes, ranging into lowland forest in some areas. Plumage is dark gray with a black throat and chestnut crown, wings, and tail. In central Colombia, birds are somewhat paler. Inhabits dense tangles in forest understory, where it is very hard to see. Usually first detected by its song, a low, guttural trill.

Pin-tailed Green-Pigeon
Treron apicauda
Like other green pigeons, usually seen flying overhead or perched in a fruiting tree. Green overall with a neon-blue bill and bright red feet. Sexes are similar, but males have a faint orange wash on the chest that females lack. Very long, sharp-tipped tail is diagnostic and evident both when in flight and when perched. Usually seen in pairs or small to medium-sized flocks in hill forest. Generally quiet; occasionally gives a high fluty “doo!” followed by two to three deeper coos.

Sabah Partridge
Tropicoperdix graydoni
Intricately-patterned partridge of tropical lowland rainforest. Uncommon and declining throughout its range. Brown with buff scaling, rusty bib, stippled black-and-white head pattern, and a pale throat. Forages in small flocks on the forest floor. Found at lower altitudes than other partridges in range and distinguished by pale ear patch and lack of rufous on the head. Song, often given as a duet, consists of loud, tremulous whistles followed by a series of up and down notes “weep! churrrrr…!”.
