Copper-tailed Starling
Hylopsar cupreocauda
A small rainforest starling with a short square tail. In poor light, can look completely black, but usually shows a purple head; the rest of the body and wing are black with blue gloss. Even in bad viewing conditions, the pale eye is obvious. Found in lowland rainforest, gallery forest, and along forest edge. Often in small groups. Very similar to Purple-headed Starling, but ranges don’t overlap, and easily separated by the yellow eye. Found in the same habitat as Splendid Starling, but much smaller, with a shorter and narrower tail. The vocalizations include nasal whistles and scratchy notes.

Tricolored Munia
Lonchura malacca
Small, finchlike bird of weedy and grassy areas in tropical lowlands. Often in small flocks, which associate readily with seedeaters and grassquits. Adult is handsome and striking with rusty upperparts. Black head and underparts are cut by a broad white swath from flanks across the lower breast. Note stout gray bill. Juvenile notably plain, buffy brown overall with stout bluish-gray bill. Note the pointed tail, unlike seedeaters and grassquits. Native to Asia and spreading in New World as an escaped cage bird.

Lemon-bellied White-eye
Zosterops chloris
Bright yellowish white-eye with a disjunct island range; found from southwestern Borneo to southern Papua. Compare carefully with other local white-eyes. Favors open coastal forest, forest edge, scrubby areas, gardens, plantations, and towns; can be abundant on small islands. Song is a jumbled series of high-pitched notes; it is a common sound during early mornings and late evenings on islands. Calls include sharp descending cheeps and sparrow-like tweets.

Malleefowl
Leipoa ocellata
Heavily-built grayish ground-dwelling bird with short heavy legs, gray neck and chest, and strongly marked (camouflaged) back and tail. Scarce endemic resident of semi-arid open forest (typically the multi-stemmed "Mallee" Eucalypt vegetation). Builds large nest-mounds from leaf litter. Most sightings are of single birds or pairs.
