Slender-billed Thornbill
Acanthiza iredalei
Small bird with thin pointed bill, found in coastal marshes, heath, and around salt lakes from southern Western Australia to southern South Australia. Grayish brown above, pale with faint speckling on chest below, with pale eye and faint pale-and-dark grizzling in face. Dark tail contrasts with paler rump. Forages in small flocks in understory bushes and also on the ground.

The thornbill ranges from 9 to 10 centimeters in length. The colour of its back ranges from olive-grey to a darker olive-brown. The base of its tail is olive-yellow. Its underbelly is a smooth cream colour, and it has a dark bill and pale eyes.

The slender-billed thornbill iredalei subspecies has six separate and isolated populations in Western Australia, and a large population in the Carnarvon bioregion. The hedleyi subspecies is found in southeastern South Australia and western Victoria, and the rosinae subspecies is most commonly found in the Gulf St Vincent region of South Australia.

The rosinae subspecies is considered vulnerable. The hedleyi subspecies is considered near threatened. The iredalei subspecies is also considered vulnerable.<p>The slender-billed thornbill (iredalei subspecies) is extinct in northern Australia, and is considered the only indigenous species to have become extinct in that region since European settlement.

Malagasy Pond-Heron
Ardeola idae
Chunky, short-legged heron. All white with a black-tipped blue bill and bright red legs in breeding plumage. Dark brown with white wings and belly in non-breeding plumage. Found in a variety of freshwater wetlands, though generally rare. Distinctive in breeding plumage, but easily confused with Squacco Heron in non-breeding plumage, when Malagasy Pond-Heron can be carefully distinguished by the much darker brown color on most of the body, which contrasts sharply with the white belly and wing.
Black-collared Starling

Large and unmistakable black-and-white starling with a yellow skin around eyes and long, slim bill. Regularly forages on lawns in parks and gardens as well as in agricultural fields. Adult has white head and belly and blackish collar, wings, and tail. Juvenile has dirty-brown head without the adult's collar and less white on the wings. Sexes alike. Well known for its vibrant, undulating song, which it often gives from an exposed perch such as a utility pole or street lamp.
Andaman Boobook
Ninox affinis
A compact owl with brownish face and upperparts. Note the bold, rust-colored streaks running down the underparts. The vent is usually white, and the tail has bars running across it. Relatively shy, active outside daylight hours in well-wooded areas. The call is a distinctive low and resonant guttural “kroooo.”
