Gray-streaked Honeyeater
Ptiloprora perstriata
A medium-sized honeyeater of montane forest and subalpine scrub. Gray color with heavy streaks over the whole body other than the plain throat, rufous flanks, long, curved bill and a gray eye. Forages at flowering shrubs and cocks its tail. Similar to Rufous-backed and Rufous-sided Honeyeaters, but Gray-streaked is larger with a gray eye and lacks any rufous on the upperparts. Call, a single, falling, plaintive whistle “piiiiiiuuuuu” sometimes given in a falling series. Also gives a nasal “wek!”.

Tasmanian Scrubwren
Sericornis humilis
Small gray-brown bird with black-and-white shoulder patch, dull white eyebrow, and faint pale chin stripe. Very similar to White-browed Scrubwren but darker and has less obvious facial pattern. Endemic to Tasmania and some surrounding islands. Forages on the ground in a variety of habitats with thick vegetation.

A large, elusive cuckoo of lowland woodlands; plumages of both adults and juveniles mimic plumages of sparrowhawks. Adult gray above and pale below, with light orange suffusion on breast and sides; strikingly similar in plumage to Japanese and Chinese sparrowhawks, but has a much thinner bill (bicolored in adults) and a more lithe and smaller-headed profile. Juvenile brown above and white below, with heavily streaked underparts. Song a feverish, rapidly accelerating "chu-witchy-chu-witchy!”

A compact, cryptically-colored, very shy bird of grassy areas, including both natural meadows and some agricultural fields, where it remains hidden from view on the ground unless flushed at close range. Both sexes brown overall with a pale face, long white eyebrows, and subtle stippling and striping on the back and breast. Breeding males have a reddish-brown face and throat. Vocal mostly during the breeding season; males give a dry, explosive three-noted song from cover. Flushed birds fly with noisy, whistling wings, unlike crakes or shorebirds. Introduced to Hawaii, found on all of the main islands. A common avicultural bird, so escapees may occur around the world.
