Ammodramus humeralis
Gorrión pequeño de cola corta encontrado en pastizales, incluyendo áreas agrícolas con bordes herbáceos. Gris pardusco por encima con fuertes estrías oscuras y alas parduscas, y gris-ante liso por debajo. Nótese la ceja amarilla corta que no se extiende más allá del ojo. Generalmente canta una serie de silbidos suaves y zumbantes desde postes de cercas o arbustos.
Identificación
The grassland sparrow is a robust species with a large head and a short tail, with a total length of about 13 cm (5 in). The wings are short and the legs fairly long. The upper parts are brownish-grey streaked with black. The breast and flanks are greyish-buff or pinkish-buff and the underparts are dull white. There is a narrow white eye-ring, and a spot of yellow on the lores and another on the bend of the wing. The song is a high-pitched but thin series of plaintive phrases, "eee, telee, teeeee". This bird is similar in appearance to the yellow-browed sparrow, but that has more yellow on the face and the voice is quite distinct.

Distribución y hábitat
This sparrow is native to the western half of South America. Its range includes Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela. Its typical habitat is tall savannah grassland, but it also inhabits pastureland and cerrado. It is present in lowland areas and at altitudes of up to 1,100 m (3,600 ft), possibly higher in southern Venezuela.

Comportamiento
A "secretive" bird, this species feeds on the ground and flits away into the vegetation if disturbed. It can be observed when singing from an elevated perch, and feeds out in the open in the early morning and late evening. The diet consists of grass and other seeds, and small insects are also eaten, particularly during the breeding season. The nest is cup-shaped and built on the ground, with a runway through the foliage leading to it.

Pequeño colibrí que se encuentra en regiones secas y arbustivas de los Andes; también en desiertos costeros de Perú. El macho tiene una garganta azul brillante bordeada por debajo de morado. La hembra carece de esto y tiene un matiz rojizo en las partes inferiores blancas; la extensión de este color rojizo varía entre individuos. También observe su pico ligeramente curvado. El macho realiza vuelos de exhibición en forma de U, en picada, emitiendo alternativamente chirridos agudos y sonidos mecánicos de tono bajo mientras lo hace. No se sabe que visite comederos.

Un petrel atractivo con antifaz negro, predominantemente gris por encima y blanco por debajo, con una banda pectoral oscura diagnóstica. Note su pico oscuro y robusto. En vuelo, exhibe subalares grises y un patrón en forma de M de color gris y pardo oscuro en el dorso. El raro morfo oscuro tiene las partes inferiores oscuras, pero aun así conserva la distintiva banda pectoral completa, que es la característica más útil para separar esta especie de los Petreles de Fea y Zino. Generalmente se le encuentra mar adentro, en vuelos altos y ondulantes; a veces sigue a los barcos.

Máximo escurridizo del sotobosque en bosques montanos, que se asemeja a un híbrido entre un zorzal y un charlatán. Un especialista del sotobosque apagado y desaliñado con partes superiores pardo-oliva y partes inferiores amarillo crema fuertemente estriadas. El inmaduro es más uniformemente oliva. Individuos solitarios o parejas son residentes altamente localizados que buscan alimento en la hojarasca de la rica y húmeda vegetación del sotobosque del bosque montano del Arco Oriental, entre 900 y 1800m, especialmente cerca de arroyos; es tímido y salta o corre rápidamente por el suelo del bosque, rara vez permitiendo observaciones detalladas. Las vocalizaciones son variables, pero más frecuentemente emite un canto rico y aflautado "we-lu-we-lu-wel’li-lu" y llamadas de parloteo dulces parecidas a las de un bulbul. El Dapple-throat se asemeja a zorzales-petirrojos o zorzales inmaduros, pero carece de manchas y escamado en las partes superiores.
