Tucán pequeño. Busque la mancha azul en un pico rojizo. Los machos tienen la corona, garganta y pecho negros; en las hembras, el negro es reemplazado por castaño. Se encuentra en bosques húmedos, incluidos los bosques de arena blanca. Su llamada es una serie lenta y profunda de notas de "ggrawnk" a "ggrraaw", fáciles de pasar por alto.
Identificación
The tawny-tufted toucanet is 32 to 33 cm (13 to 13 in) long and weighs 148 to 165 g (5.2 to 5.8 oz). Males and females have the same bill pattern but the female's bill is shorter. The bill has a vertical red line at its base. Its culmen is green to lime green; the rest of the maxilla is red but for a blue patch near the base and pale "teeth" along the tomium. The mandible is mostly brownish red (sometimes greenish horn-colored) with a blue patch near the base, a green tip, and vertical white lines along the mid section. Both sexes have pale blue bare skin around the eye and a yellow to tawny tuft of feathers behind it. Males have a black head, nape, chin, throat, and belly. Their upperparts are green with a yellow band on the lower neck. Their tail is green with chestnut tips on the central three pairs of feathers. Their flanks are yellow to rusty and their undertail coverts are red. Females have a chestnut crown to the shoulders, a rusty chin and belly, greenish yellow flanks, and paler facial skin and tuft than males.

The tawny-tufted toucanet was originally described in the genus Pteroglossus. It is monotypic.

Distribución y hábitat
The tawny-tufted toucanet is patchily distributed from extreme eastern Colombia through southern Venezuela into northwestern Brazil north of the Solimões (upper Amazon) River as far east as the upper Rio Negro. Unconfirmed sight records in Guyana lead the South American Classification Committee of the American Ornithological Society to call it hypothetical in that country. It inhabits forests, usually those on sandy soil and near waterways.

Tragopán Chino
Tragopan caboti
Esta belleza de color crema, parecida a una perdiz, es el único tragopán en su distribución y el único tragopán de vientre pálido del mundo. Un ave robusta, que generalmente se encuentra forrajeando en parejas en bosques de colinas de altitud media. El macho es pálido por debajo e intrincadamente moteado por encima, con puntos claros sobre un fondo negro y castaño; tiene una cabeza similarmente negra y castaña con piel facial de color naranja brillante. La hembra es marrón grisáceo oscuro con una cara y vientre ligeramente más pálidos; alas y vientre estriados de forma más pálida. Durante el cortejo, el macho tamborilea las alas ruidosamente y emite un “waaah!” extraño y aterrador, parecido al de un bebé, seguido de fuertes gruñidos.

Un gorrión grande con llamativas franjas negras en una cabeza gris, partes superiores marrón-oliva y partes inferiores blanquecinas con un tinte gris-leonado. Ceja blanquecina, cara usualmente más pálida y franja coronal media. Sexos similares. Poco común a localmente común en matorrales y bordes de bosque en áreas muy secas. Difícil de ver, a menudo en parejas buscando alimento en vegetación densa. Su vocalización es un silbido muy agudo. Muy similar al Gorrión Rayado Negro, que tiene una ceja más gris y es ligeramente más oscuro en general, además de habitar usualmente hábitats más húmedos que el Tocuyo. Se encuentra solo en el noreste de Colombia y el noroeste de Venezuela.

Un gran y peculiar carricero pardo con cola negra, ojo pálido y una marca de "bigote" negra. Se encuentra en parches de pasto alto y denso dentro de hábitats de sabana y matorral. Generalmente huidizo, y más a menudo visto cuando se posa para cantar. Su canto es una mezcla parlanchina y gorjeante con una cadencia rápida distintiva. Similar en forma general y hábitat al Carricero Colilargo, pero mucho más grande, con un ojo pálido y una raya facial negra.
