Eine gedrungene, irisierende, tiefviolette Taube aus dichten Wäldern und Kaffeeplantagen. Sie ist typischerweise am Boden im Laubstreu gehend zu finden, manchmal in Begleitung von Rost- oder Key-West-Tauben. Ihr ungestreifter Kopf, der weiße Stirnfleck und der irisierende violette Körper schließen andere Arten im Verbreitungsgebiet aus. Der Gesang ist ein „oop-oop…“, der ohne Pause, manchmal über mehrere Minuten, vorgetragen wird.

Bestimmung

The white-fronted quail-dove is about 28 cm (11 in) long, and weighs about 171 g (6.0 oz). The adult has a bold white forehead ("front"), and the rest of its head is slate gray. The sides of its neck have a reddish purple or violet cast that sometimes extends onto the gray breast. The lower belly is reddish. The upperparts are a darker gray than the head and have a metallic purplish blue sheen. Its eyes are red. Juveniles are browner than adults ,and do not have the purple sheen on the neck and breast.

Taxonomie

The white-fronted quail-dove and most of the other species in the genus Geotrygon were previously in Oreopeleia. In addition, it was considered conspecific with what is now the grey-fronted quail-dove (Geotrygon caniceps) under the name "grey-headed quail-dove". It is monotypic.

Verbreitung und Lebensraum

The white-fronted quail-dove is confirmed to exist only in a few areas in the west of the Dominican Republic. Unconfirmed historical accounts placed it in adjoining southeastern Haiti as well. It inhabits low elevation subtropical forests, montane forest possibly as high as 1,800 m (5,900 ft), and a few arid areas with cactus and scrub.

The white-fronted quail-dove's diet is seeds and small invertebrates like insects, grubs, and caterpillars.<p>The white-fronted quail-dove builds a nest of twigs and leaves lined with rootlets and grass and places it low in undergrowth or a vine tangle. The clutch size is usually one or two, but three eggs have been reported.<p>The white-fronted quail-dove's song is a "long series of short, low-pitched 'haoo' or 'cooo' notes, given either very rapidly in the former instance or more slowly...in [the] second".

Small mostly terrestrial bird of rainforest and wet eucalypt woodlands in a very small range in the Atherton Tabelands of far northern Queensland. Brownish above, grayish yellow below, with long pointed bill, long pinkish legs, and off-white eyering. Forages for insects mostly on the ground or in the lower canopy. Compare Large-billed Scrubwren, which is paler, less likely to feed on the ground, slightly smaller, and has a more twittering call. Song is variable, often including repeated two-note elements.

31. Ameisendrosseln sind rundliche Kreaturen, die mit einem nickenden Gang über den Waldboden laufen. Sie haben kurze Schwänze, die gewöhnlich gerade nach oben gestellt sind. Beachten Sie auch die tropfenförmige helle Haut um das Auge. Geheimnisvoll und schwer zu entdecken, obwohl sie manchmal auf Waldwegen gehend gesehen wird. Weitaus öfter gehört als gesehen. Achten Sie auf den schnellen Pfeifgesang, eine ziemlich lange Reihe von Tönen, die in der Tonhöhe ansteigen.

10. Dieser gedrungene Vogel ist unterseits schmutziggelb und oberseits dunkelbraun mit einer rotbraunen Kappe. Die Geschlechter sind ähnlich. Könnte mit dem Gelbbrust-Buschammer verwechselt werden, der in höheren Lagen vorkommt und eine leuchtendere rotbraune Kappe hat. Paare oder kleine Gruppen suchen in den unteren Bereichen des Bergwaldes, an Rändern und in Dickichten nach Nahrung und klettern oft ein paar Meter über dem Boden herum. Kommt von etwa 600–2.500 m vor.
