Agropsar sturninus

Petit étourneau fortement migrateur ; commun sur ses lieux d'hivernage, mais localisé pendant la reproduction, et souvent difficile à trouver en migration. Mâle foncé dessus, blanc dessous, mais au motif complexe, avec des nuances de violet, de vert et d'orange dans les ailes. La femelle a un motif général similaire mais est brune dessus, grisâtre dessous. Il préfère les zones ouvertes entre les forêts et les prairies, mais se nourrit également dans les champs agricoles ouverts, se rassemblant souvent en immenses volées.

The Daurian starling is distinguished from other starling species by its dark mantle and crown and narrow wing bars.

Taxonomie

The Daurian starling was previously placed in the genus Sturnus. It was moved to the resurrected genus Agropsar based on the results of two molecular phylogenetic studies that were published in 2008.
