Indian Yellow Tit
Machlolophus aplonotus
The only crested tit in most of its range. Black front with yellow cheek and yellow eyebrow. Yellowish-green upperparts, white-spotted wings, and yellow-and-black underparts. Females and juveniles are duller, with shorter crests, central stripe thinner and incomplete, and yellowish parts becoming dull white. A bird of the hills, it is most abundant between 500 meters and 1800 meters of elevation, but rarely descends to lower elevations. Seen in pairs or family groups, often joining mixed-species foraging flocks in the non-breeding season. Forages in the canopy, emitting loud whistles and harsh chatters.

Strange-tailed Tyrant
Alectrurus risora
Striking flycatcher with a spectacular mating display, in which male flies high into the air and repeatedly pumps tails above and then below body. Endemic to the Iberá marshes of NE Argentina and E Paraguay. Male unmistakable. Female from other whitish flycatcher by orange throat, pale peach bill, and elongated tail. Prefers flooded grasslands with tall, undisturbed grasses, and is thus threatened by cattle grazing.
Rufous-browed Chat-Tyrant
Ochthoeca superciliosa
Handsome flycatcher found only in the high Andes of Venezuela. Plumage is quite distinctive with bright cinnamon belly, eyebrows, and wing stripes. Inhabits elfin forest and scrub near or above tree line. Typically encountered in pairs that perch in the open and give sharp “chep” calls and as well as raucous chatters. Formerly treated as a subspecies of Brown-backed Chat-Tyrant, which only barely reaches over Colombian border into Venezuela and does not overlap with Rufous-browed.
White-chinned Myzomela
Myzomela albigula
A small honeyeater of wooded habitats on New Guinea’s SE Islands. Dull brown color with streaky breast, pale throat and long, curved bill. Male has a thin, vertical, red line down its throat, and some areas, males lack the white throat. The only other myzomela in range is the Papuan Black Myzomela, but White-chinned has a streaked chest. Gives a rather jumbled, whistled song. Call, a simple high-pitch “chip”.
