Black-collared Bulbul
Neolestes torquatus
Odd, striking bulbul that resembles a shrike. Crown and shoulders are gray, back and wings are olive, and a broad black stripe runs from the beak, through the eyes and ears, forming a broad necklace on the creamy white underparts. Juvenile is less striking, with pale tips to the feathers. Pairs are localized residents in wooded tall grassland with scattered shrubs. Gives a fast high-pitched whiny “chet-cherit-rit-rit-rit” and a liquid melodious song that wafts up and down in pitch, rendered “choo-oo-cheloo-eo-loo-oe-loo”, sweeter than similar sounding Common Bulbul.

Rufous Fieldwren
Calamanthus campestris
Small bird of open arid shrubland and grasslands. Pale brown above, whitish below, with distinct pale supercilium, faint chest streaking, and long, cocked tail. Forages quietly on the ground or in thick vegetation, where difficult to see. Most easily observed when males sing in spring, as they perch up in the vegetation. Similar to Western Fieldwren but no range overlap. Compare Shy Heathwren, which has a white wing spot and darker legs.
Long-tailed Ground-Roller
Uratelornis chimaera
Long-tailed, long-legged bird with bold head and chest markings. Elusive and shy; unlikely to be seen by those not searching for it. Found in a small portion of Madagascar’s southwestern spiny forest, at low elevation on sandy soils. Feeds on the ground, avoiding disturbance by running away. Song is a high, short “tuk” note delivered in a quick series. Unmistakable within its tiny range.
Green Racquet-tail
Prioniturus luconensis
A rare medium-sized parrot of lowland and foothill forest on Luzon. The two central tail feathers have extended shafts ending in a racket shape. Overall green in color, slightly darker on the back, with paler head and underparts and a pale bill. Male is more yellowish-green in color. Overlaps geographically with Luzon Racquet-tail, but Green is found at lower elevations and lacks the brownish back. Also overlaps with Blue-naped Parrot, but has a pale rather than red bill. Voice consists of ringing metallic squawks.
