Green Parakeet
Psittacara holochlorus
Bright green bird with long, pointed tail. Bill is dull pink. Some birds have red speckling on neck, but plumage otherwise uniform. Native to Mexico, but also found in small introduced colonies in southern Texas. Almost always seen in small flocks in wooded or suburban areas; gathers in large nighttime roosts. Feeds on fruit and seeds. Listen for high-pitched screeching calls.

White-necked Babbler
Stachyris leucotis
Brown babbler with a black throat and scale-like white feathers on the brow and neck. Favors slopes of lowland and foothill forests. Forages just above or on the ground; frequently in mixed flocks with other similarly-sized babblers. Song is a short series of mellow and beautiful melodic whistles.
Little Cormorant
Microcarbo niger
An all black ducklike waterbird with a distinctive flattish head and a bill that is sharply hooked at the tip. Smallest of the cormorants found in the region. Breeding adults have white plumes on the sides of the head. Like all cormorants, frequently seen swimming with its body low in the water, head and neck pointing upward, and suddenly disappearing underwater to catch fish. Often perches upright on a rock, drying itself with outstretched wings. Seen singly or in small groups in inland water bodies. Similar to Indian Cormorant, but note smaller size, stouter bill, and shape of the head, flat on Little Cormorant and rounded on Indian Cormorant.
Sumichrast's Wren
Hylorchilus sumichrasti
Very local in humid evergreen forest of limestone (karst) lowlands and foothills in northern Oaxaca and adjacent Veracruz; endemic. Stays on or near the ground, moving quickly among limestone boulders, popping in and out of caves and crevices. Like most wrens, heard more often than seen, but can be curious; sometimes appears at close range, bobbing and holding its tail cocked. Distinctive: rather chunky with a very long bill, a pale gray face marked with a dark cheek patch, and a rusty breast.
