Marañon Thrush

Turdus maranonicus

Large, boldly marked thrush restricted to the Marañon Valley of northwestern Peru and southern Ecuador. It has brown upperparts and white underparts that are densely covered with thick, brown scales. No other adult thrush has similar markings below. Juveniles of other thrushes may show spotting on the underparts, but the marks are smaller and less contrasting, and other species are unlikely to be found together with this one. It inhabits lightly wooded areas and forest edge, often near water.
