Pulitzer's Longbill

Brown thrush of lowland rainforest. Reddish brown overall with a dark bill and no noticeable eye ring. Found in low levels of a variety of forested habitats, especially mature rainforest. Listen for a series of rich, caroling phrases, similar to that of an American Robin.

Medium-sized green pigeon with yellow face and yellowish line on the wing. Male has a maroon back that is green on the female. Found singly or in small groups at upper levels of forest in lowlands and hills. Maroon back of male rules out similar species. Female has pale, green-marked undertail, unlike plainer, rufous undertail of Orange-breasted Green-Pigeon, or rufous markings of Yellow-footed Green-Pigeon. Legs and feet of Sri Lanka Green-Pigeon are reddish. Call a series of drawn-out whistles.

An oddly shaped parrot with two thin tail rackets. Mostly green, with a golden wash on the back of males (absent in females) and a silvery-gray bill. Males show a small red crown patch. Juvenile resembles female, but lacks rackets. Found in pairs and groups in canopy of forest, forest edge, and clearings in lowlands and mountains. Restricted to Sulawesi, Sula, and Talaud islands. The only parrot with rackets in its range, outside of north Sulawesi. In north Sulawesi, where the larger Yellow-breasted Racquet-tail occurs, note Golden-mantled’s lack of a yellow breast patch. Noisy, giving shrill “kleer” notes and a sharp “kip.”
